Meaning of the Water of Life

Water of life is an essential spiritual element that provides life to all humankind suffering from spiritual thirst. Water is an essential substance for all living things on Earth, including plants, to sustain life. Although the human body varies according to age, it is usually made up of 50-80% water. If our body loses 1-2% of its water we feel extremely thirsty. A deficiency of 5-10% can lead to a coma and a loss of 12% can result in death. It is not an exaggeration to say that water is life itself.

This logic also applies to our souls. The life of a soul also needs the water of life. If there is no water of life, our souls cannot help but die due to severe thirst. What does the Bible say about the water of life?

The days are coming, declares the Sovereign LORD, when I will send a famine through the land– not a famine of food or a thirst for water, but a famine of hearing the words of the LORD. ···

(Amos 8:11-13)

The water of life that our souls need is none other than the Word of God. The prophet Amos prophesies that in this age, all souls will feel extremely thirsty because they are unable to obtain the water of life, which is the truth of God.

Where can we receive the water of life that is directly related to our salvation?

The Source of the Water of Life

God is the source of the water of life. However in each age God appeared in a different form and with a different name and gave the water of life.

The Age of the Father(God Jehovah)

In the age of the Father, the prophet Jeremiah who spoke on behalf of God; His will and regulations for forty years, revealed that the source of the water of life is Jehovah.

Those who turn away from you will be written in the dust because they have forsaken the LORD, the spring of living water. ··· save me and I will be saved ···

(Jeremiah 17:13-14)

He explained that leaving Jehovah God would be written in the dust. In other words, it means there is no salvation. The reason the forefathers of faith, in the Age of the Father, such as Moses, David, and Solomon were able to receive salvation was because they praised and obeyed God Jehovah, who is the source of the water of life, and obeyed His words.

The Age of the Son(Jesus Christ)

The Samaritan woman said to him, “You are ··· How can you ask me for a drink?” ··· Jesus answered her, “If you knew the gift of God and who it is that asks you for a drink, you would have asked him and he would have given you living water.” ··· whoever drinks the water I give him will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life.”

(John 4:9-14)

This is a conversation between Jesus and the Samaritan woman 2000 years ago. The water that leads to eternal life, in which a person will never be thirsty, was given by Jesus, the Savior in the Age of the Son. It means that Jesus is the source of the water of life. During Jesus’ three-year public ministry, Jesus taught the Jews the truth ofl life that leads to eternal life (Matthew 28:20). The apostles of the Early Church not only listened to the words of Jesus and kept them but also preached to the Gentiles. It was because the words of Jesus were the only way to save souls who were dying of spiritual thirst.

The Age of the Holy Spirit(The Spirit and the Bride)

Now is the age of the Holy Spirit. In this age which we live in, it is important to know who the source of the water of life is. The apostle John saw the Savior who gives the water of life in the age of the Holy Spirit through a revelation.

The Spirit and the bride say, “Come!” And let him who hears say, “Come!” Whoever is thirsty, let him come; and whoever wishes, let him take the free gift of the water of life.

(Revelation 22:17)

In this day and age humankind is struggling from spiritual thirst and the only way for them to be saved is to drink the water of life given by the Spirit and the Bride. Who are the Spirit and the Bride who give the water of life? The Spirit is God of the Trinity, and indicates Christ, that is God the Father, who comes to the earth in the age of the Holy Spirit.

Then, who is the ‘Bride’ who gives the water of life together with God the Father, who is the Spirit? A person cannot receive the water of life without knowing the One who gives the water of life, so a person needs to definitely know who the Bride is. The apostle John saw the Bride of the Spirit coming down out of Heaven through a revelation.

··· “I will show you the bride, the wife of the Lamb.” ··· and showed me the Holy City, Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God.

(Revelation 21:9-10)

The Apostle John said that the Bride of the Lamb, God the Father, was the city Jerusalem, which came down from Heaven. This is not referring to the ruined Temple in Israel, Palestine. Then who is the Heavenly Jerusalem, the bride, who gives the water of life?

But the Jerusalem that is above is free, and she is our mother.

(Galatians 4:26)

The apostle Paul testified that Heavenly Jerusalem is ‘our mother.’ The word ‘our’ in this verse are the ‘saints who are to receive salvation.’ Therefore, the Bride, who gives the water of life is God our Mother. The fact that the Spirit and the Bride give the water of life together means that in order to receive the water of life to maintain the life of our souls in this age, we must go to God the Mother together with God the Father.

Jerusalem Who Gives the Water of Life

In the Old Testament times, the prophet Zechariah prophesied that living water will flow out from Jerusalem to the whole world in all seasons (Zechariah 14:8). That is, in the last days, it tells us that God the Mother, who is the reality of the New Jerusalem, will grant the water of life.

The prophet Ezekiel prophesied that the water of life given by God the Mother would flow to the whole world, and all nations would be healed, and the peoples from all nations would return to the truth (Ezekiel 47:1-7). Next, is the introduction of the great effects of the water of life. The prophet Ezekiel explained that wherever the water of life flows all creatures that were dying will live and the sea will become fresh (Ezekiel 47:8-12). In the Bible, the sea refers to the world (Revelation 17:15). In other words, it represents that humankind throughout the world, who were dying from spiritual famine and drought, will live through God’s water of life.

Also, Ezekiel prophesied that there is a tree of life that bears fruit every month by the river where the water of life flows, and that the leaves of the tree is medicine for the healing of humankind that is dying. This is exactly in line with the prophecy in the book of Revelation.

Then the angel showed me the river of the water of life, as clear as crystal, flowing from the throne of God and of the Lamb down the middle of the great street of the city. On each side of the river stood the tree of life, bearing twelve crops of fruit, yielding its fruit every month. And the leaves of the tree are for the healing of the nations.

(Revelation 22:1-2)

The source of the water of life means God the Mother, who is the Heavenly Jerusalem as God and the throne of the Lamb (Jeremiah 3:17). The Old and New Testaments of the Bible consistently testify about Jerusalem, God the Mother, who gives the water of life. According to this prophecy, God the Mother has come into the world and is crying out, “Come to receive the water of life.” Only those who respond to this cry will have their souls refreshed. In addition, they will be able to receive true happiness and comfort from Mother (Isaiah 66:13).
